About Us

Pacific Ice Academy was developed in 2021 by a group of coaches with a singular vision: to provide a safe and positive training environment for skaters to grow within the sport of figure skating. We developed our program at Sherwood Ice Arena. Built in 2000, SIA served the community as a safe haven for family recreation and entertainment. In 2024 Sherwood Ice Arena closed it doors and new ownership took over. April 2025 we partnered with Carousel Figure Skating Club and moved our program to Lloyd Center Ice Rink (LCIR).

— Recreational —

LCIR provides a robust Skate School for entry-level skaters under the umbrella of US Figure Skating’s Learn to Skate USA program. Skaters also have the opportunity to engage in off-ice activities through SIA’s Aspire program.

— Competitive —

Pacific Ice Academy provides specialty training for skaters of all ages and abilities. If you are interested in transitioning from recreational to competitive, or hoping to devote more time to skill development, Pacific Ice Academy will help you cross that bridge.

SKATING IN STAGES

Pacific Ice Academy offers various opportunities to meet the needs of avid skaters. Our coaches are highly experienced at guiding beginners through the various stages of the sport.

Upon entering the Learn to Skate program at LCI, beginners learn fundamental skills that will serve as building blocks for more advanced skating later on. Skaters should also use this time as an exploratory phase out on the ice.

Our LTS curriculum will cover all levels of free skate; although, we highly encourage future competitors to participate in our ASPIRE program once they have achieved Basic 6. ASPIRE is a bridge program designed to teach skaters proper skating skills at a fast pace in a safe group environment. It will introduce the skater and family to the world of figure skating while serving as a gentle transition into Pacific Ice Academy.

Pacific Ice Academy is open to skaters of all levels interested in greater skill development. Our training opportunities, which include ice time passes, specialty classes and performance assessments, provide a comprehensive training experience for our members. Those looking to pursue a competitive career in figure skating should enroll in Pacific Ice Academy during the early stages of fundamental skill development.

Through continuous monitoring in the academy, skaters may achieve entry into AXIS ON ICE, the high performance program residing at LIC. AXIS is one of the Northwest’s top figure skating teams, having produced a number of national and international medalists. To qualify for Team AXIS, competitors must be competing at the Juvenile level and above in US Figure Skating’s qualifying structure.

Please use Pacific Ice Academy’s Figure Skating Progression Timeline as a guide in assessing where your skater fits within our programs at Lloyd Center Ice. For questions, please contact Lydia at lydia@carouselfsc.org.

Long-

Term

Athlete Development

Pacific Ice Academy aims to educate skaters and their families about the sport of figure skating with a wider scope. In addition to fostering better health and well-being, athletes will learn sport-specific and life skills while cultivating relationships with others.

We enjoy taking athletes from their first steps on the ice to the highest level of international competition. Navigating that pathway can be difficult without the guidance of experienced professionals. At Pacific Ice Academy, we are fortunate to have an incredible staff of coaches that includes national and international-level coaches. Check out our coaching team here.
